East Coast of Rhodes
The beach at the resort of Reni Koskinou has been awarded the EU Blue Flag for its cleanliness; the village has pebble mosaic courtyards and traditional achitecture. At Kalithea one finds some good swimming and snorkeling coves, not far from Rhodes Town; the hot baths here no longer flow.
Faliraki is a huge resort; Cape Ladhiko has pebble beaches; Afandou Bay has deep, clear sea on a 7 km beach, with low-key development (at least up till recently). Traganou beach has caves and a huge resort with one of Greece’s two huge golf courses; tennis courts are here, too. Kolymbia is yet another large resort, with a quieter beach at Vagia Point; Tsambika has a long sandy bay, taverna, and low-key development, with a monastery on the bluffs above, 300 steps up, with rewarding views.
Epta Piges is one of Rhodes green attractions, its name referring to the seven springs that flow into a lake cum reservoir that irrigates local farms; a water-side tavena, pines, ducks, peacocks, ducks are here, and also an Italian aqueduct that leads to the lake, 200 meters long.
Archangelos village is Rhodes’ largest, with 4,000 inhabitants (approx.) The churches for which the village is named are appealing, with 14th century frescoes in the nearby church of Aghia Theodhorou. The town is known for the craft of carpet-making, and hand-crafted leather boots. The beach at Aghia Agathia is accessible by dirt road from the village.
